107. New Year New You

Happy New Year! I hope you had a lovely festive season... but let’s face it, the holidays whilst fun and festive can also be stressful for your mind, body and your skin.



That’s why I wanted to share a self-care guide to help you start a healthy new year and refresh your face and body.

1. Set A Morning Routine


During the holidays, it’s more important than ever to stick to your morning routine. All the late nights, indulging in rich foods, sugary treats and festive drinks can create an inflamed skin and make sensitised or acne prone skin a disaster.

Every morning, I head in for some quiet time caring for my skin. By starting the day focusing on my skincare regimen, I not only feel more relaxed, my complexion is happy, healthy and glowing when I’m ready to start the day.

A Clean Start - Double Cleanse

I’m using the Dermalogica Precleanse Oil with a microfiber wash cloth to create a super soft, soothing cleanse that opens up my pores followed by using the Intensive Moisture Cleanser. I often switch to a lipid-enriched cleanser in the winter months to prevent over-drying my skin. The BioReplenish Complex removes impurities while actively nourishing dry, depleted skin.


Tone Up

Spritzing is homecare and homework I often give to my clients. It boosts hydration throughout the day and ensures even product absorption. I have a mini mist everywhere - car, handbag, makeup bag, with my skincare range, travel essentials, office... the spritzing queen!! Dermalogica toners shield against environmental pollution, increase product penetration and even out skin porosity.

Make a Serum Cocktail

You all know I am a serum junkie and like to mix them up, switch them out and adjust according to how my skin is doing. However, there are some I just can’t live without.


First, I use circular hydration serum with a massage tool or gua sha to help penetrate the hyaluronic acid deep into my skin to hydrate which boosts luminosity, evens skin tone and brightens my complexion.


Then I load up with some of my favorite serums: 🌱 phyto nature firming serum - a dual-phase serum that restores and preserves, lifts and firms. 🍊biolumin-c serum - that brightens my skin, boosts antioxidants and radiance

🌈 smart response serum - my travel buddy and brilliant all-rounder. This next-gen technology personalises its response with each application. It recognises micro-changes in the skin, intelligently addressing skin concerns before they're visible to the naked eye and helping to prevent future damage.

Massage and Depuff

If I wake up feeling a bit puffy after having the heating on overnight, I follow with my ice globes which I keep in the fridge to calm inflammation, boost circulation and lymphatic drainage and depuff my skin. This feels amazing with the circular hydration serum.



Then I use my Aurum D gua sha stone combined with my lift + plump massage techniques "a facelift with my hands" to help lift and firm my skin whilst adding in an extra layer of moisture and hydration. I use the skin smoothing cream as this works all year round either to layer in the winter or as a night cream in the summer. The Active HydraMesh Technology™ infuses skin with 48 hours of continuous hydration and helps protect against environmental stress.


ALWAYS protect your skin and finish a daytime routine with spf30 or above. I love the prisma protect spf30 or dynamic skin recovery spf50. I also then add a tinted moisturiser with spf in for extra protection. My favourites are:

☀️ Tancream spf50 - sun protection factor 50 with self tan and bronzer to be used daily as your face and body moisturiser (my summer and holiday go to!)

☀️ Porescreen spf40 - minimises pores appearance with a blurring, primer-like effect, and enhancing skin tone with a hint of tint for radiant skin

☀️ Skin Perfect Primer spf30 - luminaries, primes and protects.


2. Eat Well


I’ll be the first to admit that I love all of the holiday goodies the season brings. However, the second I start to overindulge, I end up regretting it. My skin looks a bit puffy, my head aches, my digestive system is complaining and I feel more worn out than ever.

So my rule is to allow myself small treats but stick to at least 85% of my normal diet. This means I still get the fruits, veggies and protein I need but I don’t have to give up my cheese board, chocolate and festive coffees either.


I am also really regimented about taking supplements, this winter I started the amazing new LYMA supplement formulated by Dr Paul Clayton and his team of pharmacologists... it's ten proven ingredients in one powerful tablet.

I used to take a cocktail of recommended supplements daily and this one has been transformative on many levels ~ sleep, anxiety, immunity, focus and beauty. Plus there's more room in my cupboard now because I only have one tub of supplements rather than 10-15 different jars! It's simplified my supplement regime with one Rolls Royce all in one - simplicity at its best!


3. Love That Candlelight


With the days getting darker, lighting up your day and night with candles is the perfect way to soothe your body and soul. Having a relaxing home regime for better sleep and better skin.

I love to put on my favorite music, have the candles burning and think about all the things I have to be thankful for, like my healthy happy children, a husband I love so much, Nala our sweet dog we're blessed with and all of my wonderful clients who have supported my new business chapters this year.


I've recently been introduced to Neom candles, mists and essential oils. There are scents to suit everyone's preference, but the ones I bought recently were Scent to Sleep which was recommended by our Perfume & Company our local stockist.

Understanding the benefits of essential oils not just the lovely scent are important... Three of my favourite relaxing essential oils are:


lavender

In a sleep study, participants who slept in Lavender-infused rooms ranked their sleep as 20% better. It's also said that Lavender-filled pillows have helped insomniacs sleep more soundly. Lavender is used in my Aurum D relax body oil, Aurum D relaxing bath salts, Aurum D bedtime face oil, and Dermalogica's sound sleep cocoon night gel-cream.

 

patchouli

Popularised in the 1960s, Patchouli has a new set of followers today: Those who swear by it as a natural sleep aid. Patchouli’s natural chemicals increase production of neurotransmitters including serotonin and dopamine, known to ease anxiety and stress, as well as hormones that regulate sleep cycles. Its sedative powers can also help keep you from waking up during the night.

 

sandalwood

The Sandalwood tree’s rich, long-lasting fragrance is a popular one that's used as the base essential oil for both Aurum D relax and refresh oils. I love this scent, it's deeply grounding and anxiety-reducing qualities make it a potent sleep remedy, with an added bonus: Its aroma relaxes cramped muscles, giving you one less reason to toss and turn.


To ensure a deeper and more restful sleep we have a bedtime regime - reading a book, pillow spray, sound sleep cocoon & essential oils in our diffusers. The soft glow from the diffuser light and calming scent aids the relaxing environment.

4. Finish Like You Started


Finally, the end of your day should be about time for yourself and caring for your skin, just like your day began.

Double Cleanse I wrap up by cleansing my skin, with precleanse followed by daily glycolic cleanser to ensure that all of the oils, dirt and other impurities that become caked on over the day are gone.

Tools and Devices I enjoy using exfoliating face brush with my cleanser if it's been a particularly busy day or I've been in the city to give a deeper cleanse and help my facial muscles relax.


Then I follow with my favorite serums and finish my last layer with dynamic skin retinol serum to let its gentle retinoids go to work overnight to help restore collagen and keep my skin firm and lifted. I apply skin smoothing cream to seal in the restorative ingredients.


As I get into bed, for the most relaxing part of my routine, I press sound sleep cocoon on then smooth 4 drops of my Aurum D bedtime face oil and give myself a lift and laminate facial massage.

5. Make A Love List


I saw this advice a few years ago and since then it has truly made my holidays more meaningful. Simply make a list of everything you would love to do or be over the next year in all aspects of your life, from personal to business.

Put down everything you think of with no roadblocks or dream-killers allowed and then frame your list where you can see it every day.

The boys and I did this the other day when talking about 2024 - holidays, play dates, activities, days out etc... it's not a to-do, just inspiration for the year ahead.
