Pro Tips For Your Post-Holiday Skin Detox

The festive season has come and gone, but like many of us, you can still see the toll it has taken on our skin. One too many glasses of champagne in celebration, late nights and the extra sugar and processed foods packed into those grand feasts.

No matter how joyful the season was it can cause skin breakouts, puffiness, and leave skin feeling dry and dull.

The good news is, there’s no need to panic. By simply following a few easy steps, you can bring back that glowing healthy skin. Refreshing your regime will helo to reverse any damage the holidays have wreaked on your skin. Here are our pro tips for detoxing your post - holiday skin.

1. Eat Clean 🥦

The puffiness, lackluster, irritation or redness of your skin started from within, with the food and drink consumed during the festive season.

That’s where your 'detox' or refresh has to start as well. Luckily, fixing the issue is easy with a few simple steps. Start by getting your diet back on track, eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, leafy greens and clean proteins. Cut the refined sugars and other festive indulgences.

Healthy breakfast idea

After the holidays, we recommend adding some fresh juices, like carrot and ginger, which help calm skin inflammation, while leaving you feeling rejuvenated and your skin looking brighter.

2. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate 💦

Hydration is important for our skin cell renewal and that natural healthy glow. It's time to focus on hydration, getting plenty of water each day to flush out the toxins that have built up over the holidays.

If you feel you’re not getting enough water intake in your daily routine, a helpful recommendation is to fill up a litre bottle of water each morning and refill it at least twice throughout the day.

3. Pick Up Supplements 💊

As the health of your skin and your body can often begin in the gut, be sure to work towards restoring your normal flora. Check in with your nearest health food specialist, but our favourites are the prebiotics in the Lyma Skincare cocktail.

I love that instead of taking 8-10 individual supplements daily these are one superfood supplement packed with a researched blend of awesome ingredients. A few to highlight are the prebiotics to improve overall gut health, along with turmeric extract and lycopene antioxidants which work to revitalize your skin from the inside out.

All it takes is this one supplement daily to start seeing results. Better sleep, better skin, better mental clarity & better health! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

4. Moisturize As You Cleanse 🫧

The holidays are a time when cleansing often falls by the wayside, leaving your skin irritated, inflamed and more likely to suffer breakouts.

When you add in the cooler weather and winds of the season, dry skin is almost inevitable.

That’s why to get your skin back on track, gentle cleansing that adds moisture back to your skin is a must.

Our absolute favorite products for cleansing the skin post holidays are:

Gentle cleansing gel/cream for reactive skin. This pH-balanced, non-foaming cleanser helps calm and cool reactive, sensitised or overprocessed skin. Delicately fortifies skin’s protective barrier without leaving an irritating residue, and easily rinses away or wipes off, making it ideal for sensitive skin.

🧖🏻‍♀️ Oil to Foam Cleanser -

Transformative oil to foam cleanser removes make up, sunscreen, and debris while cleansing skin in one step for ultra-clean, healthy-looking skin.

This dual make up remover and cleanser starts as a golden gel-oil infused with Sea Buckthorn Oil; massage into skin to melt away layers of make up, sebum (oil), and sunscreen.

A splash of water transforms the gel-oil into a rich cloud-like foam to wash away debris and any remaining impurities. This foaming cleanser with a plant-derived prebiotic leaves skin feeling instantly soft and smooth. I love this for the gym & it's my travel 'go to' also!

Light, creamy cleanser enhanced with BioReplenish Complex removes impurities while actively nourishing dry, depleted skin.

This emollient, lipid-enriched formula cleanses skin while helping to minimise damage of vital proteins and lipids that defend against dryness.

BioReplenish Complex, combined with phytoactives from Coconut Oil and Murumuru Seed Butter, help protect barrier lipids and preserve the skin's natural resilience for a smoother feel after cleansing.

Invigorating extracts of Citrus, Palmarosa and Jasmine refresh tired skin. Rinses away easily, leaving skin cleaner, softer and more luminous.

5. Up Your Masking Game 🆘

To overcome your post-holiday skincare woes, masks are essential in order to bathe your skin in actives that combat the damage done.

Generously slather on your masque and if you have a gua sha stone or other skincare devices it's great to use them over your masque for extra benefits and to help the ingredients penetrate deeper.

Generally, masques are recommended at least once a week to keep skin looking healthy and glowing at all times, but some masques can be worn up to four times a week – or whenever your skin needs rescuing.

Our favourite is multivitamin power recovery mask - my nickname for it is the ambulance in a tube... when your skin needs a little SOS like after the festive season!

It's the ultimate remedy for dulling, dry, dehydrated, lackluster, photodamaged skin and skin ageing. Powerful, concentrated vitamins A, C and E, and Linoleic Acid help restore skin showing signs of damage and aging while enhancing barrier properties.

Antioxidant vitamins C and E help shield skin from Reactive Oxygen Species (free radicals). Nutrient-rich Algae Extract helps moisturise and soften skin while Pro-Vitamin B5 helps nourish damaged skin. Botanical extracts of Licorice, Comfrey and Burdock soothe and calm skin while increasing resilience. 🚑

6. Gently Exfoliate ✨

When skin is inflamed and irritated after that round of holiday parties, intense exfoliation can do far more harm than good. However, it’s still important to keep a buildup of dead skin cells from dulling your complexion and clogging your pores.

That’s why after the holidays, we turn to liquid peelfoliant to gently exfoliate and purify the skin, giving it an instant skin boost!

It's gentle enough to use as a daily peel with a potent blend of acids and enzymes smooths the appearance of fine lines while helping to visibly minimise pores and even skin tone.

This Professional-grade at-home peel has a blend of 30% acids and enzymes (Glycolic, Lactic, Salicylic, Phytic and Tranexamic acids plus Gluconolactone and fermented Pomegranate Enzyme) works at different layers of skin’s surface to thoroughly exfoliate, help unclog pores and reveal smoother, brighter skin. A lipid-rich blend with upcycled Cranberry Extract promotes long-lasting hydration. ✨

7. Banish Puffiness 💁🏻‍♀️

As puffy skin often goes hand-in-hand with the holidays, we consider facial massage a must-do to detox our skin when January rolls around.

There are a couple at home options... gua sha stones and there’s no better way to do that than with ice globes that are kept in the fridge. It's kind of like frozen spoons under your eyes but much better! Ice globes are the perfect way to calm inflamed skin and sooth any puffiness on contact. Plus, their gentle rolling motion promotes lymphatic drainage and boosts blood circulation for a glow from the inside out!
